Last night while blogging Husband came into the bedroom and remarked, almost shocked, "Since when did you like to sit there?"
"Since I cleared it off," I responded. This seemed to have made perfect sense to him. He probably thought about it and recognized that this indeed was probably the first time since we've moved into this home that our window seat has been empty for more than 2 days. No laundry, no books, no pillows. Just me and my laptop. In fact, since I cleared it off, my son has taken to reading his books here. Every time he comes in he remarks, "Isn't this a great place to sit and read, Mom?" The funny thing is he has a window seat in his own room. And it's usually cleared off. There must be something about sitting in this room that makes ours more of a novelty experience.
And so I sit in my window seat again this evening. It's lovely. And it got me thinking....what other places do I have in my home that keep getting covered and cluttered and aren't getting the use out of them that was intended? I'm going to let that one simmer... {laundry room, shed, garage...those are the big ones that come to mind...but I am sure there are smaller areas that could use a clearing out}.
On another note, here's your proof that I was not kidding about my reason for moving out of the home office:
Would you want to work in an office with this thing staring at you from behind all the time?
I don't think so.
ugh.
Anyway, let's end on a happy note, shall we? Remember my secret desire to have home grown food on my table? Well, I have made another wonderful discovery... If you don't have your own garden, you should live by people who do! This is just a fraction of the love that continues to be dropped off on our doorstep by wonderful neighbors:
Clearly I need to make some tomato soup or bruschetta or something soon! Husband mentioned to me he might be ready this spring to plan a garden after all. This is huge. He even said the reason he killed the section of bushes along our fence was to prep it for planting. He had actually picked out our spot for gardening! He sheepishly confided that as much gardening as he did growing up, he doesn't remember a whole lot. So, I guess he and I will get to take the blind plunge into gardening together. I'm excited. I mean, spring's kind of a ways off, but still. There's a chance I will get to grow something besides basil and parsley after all!
Now here's your motivational cheer: Go and clear off that proverbial window seat of yours so you can enjoy it! :)

Hey! No fair...you only got the picture of the elk's snout. To really admire and appreciate how awesome it is, you need to see the horns! (I assume you are trying to get sympathy from people by asserting the office is "yours". Well, we share it. That is on my side :) Also, all my friends, cade and savvy love it.
I think I wouldn't mind having an elk head in my office. After taking a good look at him, I believe his gaze is gentle and majestic. He seems to be saying "Hey- it's okay to study in here, and as guardian of this office you are welcome." I really wish I had an elk-guardian in my home. You must save a fortune on babysitting!
Well done Woodbury family- well done.
Steve
I would have like to see the whole thing. I think it's cool I wish I had room for my elk rack in my office. It it bothered my wife to have someting staring at her she would just put a blindfold on it but it would bother her anyway she got used to her kids staring over her should and since it isn't alive how could it possibly be actually looking. Anyway the office should have things in it that represent the people using the office. Family phots hunting and fishing trophies wedding pictures etc. If you are bother by a little elk head maybe the pictures should be there either. Who would wanting pictures staring at you. I'm just saying.......
How exciting about gardening! Maybe Father-in-Law can come down and teach you a thing or two about how to do it!
I think that the Elk head gives a comfortable, rustic feeling to that room. You know how people pay lots of money to rent a cabin out in the woods? Well you guys don't have to, you just go into the office for the same feel!
I like the elk head. I have a bear skull in my cubicle at work and heads, furs, skulls, turkey tail feathers, etc, all over my house. The only reason I don't have furry things on my cubicle is b/c I am afraid they might get stolen. If you think that thing freaks you out now, wait until is licks you on the back of the neck when you aren't paying attention! If it isn't welcome in the office, maybe it would be welcome in view from the front door as everyone enters your home? That's were it really should be. Or perhaps outside under the dormer so that the whole neighborhood can enjoy the view?
Michelle you must be out of your mind. I have plead with Adam for years to learn how to shoot a gun so I can mount a head like that on my wall and finally feel proud of him. Your man is so manly! Mine is...well...he does have a leftover wrestling onesee that smells sweaty... Count your lucky stars to have such a symbol of strength and fortitude. With love,
Annie Ashton
Elks are not cute.
That elk head is awesome! But when I was younger I'd always swear I saw it move and I'd hold perfectly still. Either way, it is a nice addition.
One Elk mount? That's it?..... really! You need at least a few quail, A Mallard pair, some wood ducks, a giant fish or three or four would be better, A pheasant, and a nice bear skin rug to round out the whole thing. Oh I forgot a nice mule deer to go with the Elk as well. Honestly, how can any office be an office with out a few manly artifacts hanging on the wall. I think the only thing problem is that lonely Elk mount needs a few friend to keep him company. This would be common place in offices all over in Idaho. I don't see what the problem is really.
Looks like the Browns need to make a trip to the Woodbury home. Then, Michelle and I could send the boys off somewhere while we go elk hunting...you know...the kind where the elk mysteriously finds its way to the garage. It can be just as awesome and majestic in the garage.
Wow...I hate to be the one out of place here, but Michelle I agree with you. Maybe spicing the elk head up a little bit will make you enjoy it more. I saw this picture and this is perfect for your situation. http://pinterest.com/pin/70791977/ I'd love to help :)
I agree, Michelle. Could you put a bonnet on it or something?
If he shot it himself, he can keep it; otherwise, no.
however - don't these things usually go in the basement? out in the "shop" (what my grandpa called his workroom, and also where he kept his mounted whatevers)?
if the antlers/horns are the best part, then a)why not just mount those? why the whole head? and b)he shouldn't mind if you adorn them with lights and other decorations, because that would be highlighting them.
Elk don't wear bonnets or wigs or anything of that sort. The only things elk wear are velvet! And I think it looks good in the office...would you rather have it in another room?
